Q. What is your style as a psychotherapist and counselor?
A. I have an interactive, involved style with all of my clients. I do not just sit back and nod, "stroke my beard", or merely ask, "How does that make you feel?" I have received much feedback through the years from many satisfied clients as to how present and interactive I was and how important that was to them. I don't believe in the detached approach. That only makes people feel judged and alone. How could that possibly help? In addition to challenging my clients to think, learn and grow, I continually share my thoughts, insights and words of wisdom.

Susan Costello is the kind of psychotherapist that makes you feel comfortable from the first phone call. In fact, she was chosen from the tone she portrays on her voice mail. I have seen her over the few years off and on, alone and with a partner. I can go for years without talking to her, and pickup from where we left off without hesitation. After attending psychotherapy periodically throughout my life, Susan is the first psychotherapist to make me feel this comfortable. After all, I must like her...I travel all the way to Sherborn to see her. I would, and have, recommend her to anyone.

Let my over 25 years of clinical experience as a relationship counselor make a difference in your life.
When I met Susan two and a half years ago I could never have imagined the journey we were about to embark on together. I first saw Susan for marriage counseling and since then she has become my confidante and my friend. There is nothing I can't say to her. She is incredibly patient, listens intently, never judges, provides actionable insight and, most importantly, she genuinely cares. I feel lucky to have met her and would recommend her (and have) to anyone seeking support or growth - individually or as a couple.

Susan is someone I can truly be myself with. I feel so safe telling her what's going on with me. When I first started working with her, I was experiencing alot of anxiety along with low self-esteem. Susan has a very gentle way of pointing out what my strengths are, when sometimes all I can see are my weaknesses. Because of Susan, my self-esteem has much improved, and my anxiety has lessened dramatically. Susan is a very positive woman. She has helped me to become the stronger, more capable individual that she has seen in me all along. I look forward to every session with Susan.

I have had the privilege of working with Susan off and on for awhile. Over this time I have had to confront a myriad of situations, life changes, and problems which were very difficult. Susan shared with me a great number of problem solving and coping skills to help me through the tough times, and help me to celebrate the good times. I highly recommend her as a therapist.

I couldn't say enough good things about Susan as a therapist. I have been in therapy for about 10 years and have seen many therapists, and Susan has stood out far above the rest. I have made more progress with her than I have made with any others. Her kind, gentle approach and solid sound advice always have me leaving her office with hope for the future.
